Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Sat, 13/02/2010 - 11:43Traveling around Laos means "take it easy and relax", you need to enjoy the people, nature, and all the small places to go around and take a good bath. As soon as you get out the beaten track, the people is not get used to the tourism but they are really kind.

Laos. The country of the butterflies
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Sat, 27/06/2009 - 10:10Traveling around Laos is a pleasure. You can breath the quiet all around and in every city, even in the capital (Vientiane) we can feel as if we were in a small village. People is kind and they are not that used to the tourism as it´s neighbor´s countries, so the pressure over the tourist is not that much. All along the travel there is something that surprise us... butterflies. It´s true! Laos has a wide quantity and variety of butterflies that will go with you everywhere... try to find our fellow in the picture!
Laos´s river transportation. Fast boats
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 24/06/2009 - 19:20We are having a relaxing canoe trip, heading to the climbing sectors on the Laos´s river when... ruuuuunnnmmmmmmm! a big noise like a formula´s 1 car is coming from far away. In less than one minute we can see these "people" looking at us and we got surprise about their clothes, fast moving and the way they are traveling!
You have this choice for traveling and it will take you less time that it took us on the regular boat, but your trip is going to be more like a Monaco formula´s 1 race than a quiet and relaxing trip.
Business and bargain in Laos
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Mon, 22/06/2009 - 13:10Asian countries are cheap and Laos is not an exception. When you get for the first time to any country, it will take you at least two days to get used to prices and how business run, be patient and don´t get mad if you spend few dollars over your budget in those days. Once you get used to it, don´t pay more than it´s worth and try to know the people before making your purchases. We always buy in the last days, as you can see Laura´s doing fine! She spent few hours bargain with the local people and at the end she was surronded... but she could get away!
People and Laos
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Fri, 19/06/2009 - 17:12Laos people are meek and kind, they have good sense of humor and they will allways try to help you. Business are runnig from women and they will try to sell you everything, they get to you with a smiling face and quiet voice telling you: Do you want to buy this for me... and when you look to their hands, they talk to you with a deep voice telling you: Ganga, opium!
Climbing in Laos
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Fri, 19/06/2009 - 17:06Both Vang vieng and Pak Ou are good places for sport climbing, and if you want to go on your onw, disorganized it very well from your city, because it is difficult to find the places. If you go on bicycle, you can take the road from Vang Vieng and 1 km up on the north there is one place inside a cave on the other side of the river, and there is a taxi-canoe that crosses from one side to the other and afterwards they pick you up.
Going down the Mekong river in Laos. Tubbing
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Fri, 19/06/2009 - 17:01In the Vang Vieng river you can practice "Tubbing", acuatic sport where you can rent some inner wheels tubes and go down the river stopping in the bank´s river bars, jumping down from the local springboards and drinking some beers. Jumps get bigger as you go down, and the full track that usually take 2 hours, took us 5 relaxing hours... because we like jumping and not to be thirsty!
Moving around Laos
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Fri, 19/06/2009 - 16:54You can take some local busses to move around the big cities in Laos, they stop everywhere and it will take around 6 hours for 150 Km, but once you get there you can rent a motorbike and move around. We hichhiked many times and the people brought us with the smile in their faces and their trucks full of cows, but don´t forget that they don´t have the same hand signs that we have, so you´ll have to stand up in the middle of the road and stop them!
