Travel Nepal
Chitwan, the elephant with two trunks.
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Fri, 01/10/2010 - 20:47The truth is that Chitwan is a place to get relaxed after the trekking. Peaceful, with some places to have a drink, jungle is pretty close and you can even see tigers (if you are lucky). You also might see some elephant taking a walk around the streets and causing flooding in the area!
Nepali's monkeys playing in the Swayambhunath´s stairs
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Sun, 26/09/2010 - 17:13Swayambhunath is the name of one awesome stupas in Kathmandu.
It is placed on the top of a hill and if you want to get there you will go up stairs for a while, but you can enjoy this little trip... that´s the way the monkeys see it!
In this picture we can see two typical monkeys going downstairs and smiling to the camera, the ones behind, don´t smile but it looks like they are having fun!
The 15th nepali´s matresses
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Mon, 13/09/2010 - 21:09When you walk by the Himalayas you can see people carrying too much weight on their backs, like this person walking on flip flops to 3.500 meters high. Others carry their relatives in same way, they bring like a wicker basket on their back and the grandfather inside.
Look at the picture, find the backpack... probably this will give you strength to look forward when you are carrying some kilograms on your back!
Yaks
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Thu, 30/10/2008 - 12:18Are the Yaks calm?... Do you know that story saying that if you lie down in one meadow where cows are grazing and you stay still for a while they will come to see you?. That was the master (Daniel) wanted to try and he almost got trampled by the black one... don´t even try it!! we almost finish our trip right there,
Taking and "elephant" bath in the Chitwan National Park
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Thu, 30/10/2008 - 12:09You can take a bath in the Chitwan National Park river with the elephants when their caretakers are washing them up, it is a funny experience, particularly when he takes some water with his trunk and empty it over us!. Relationship between caretakers and elephants are really close and personal and it last for the entire life, they sleep together and just in case something happens, the elephant will only pay attention to his caretaker.
Taking a walk around Boudhanath temple in Katmandhu
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Thu, 30/10/2008 - 12:03During the travel we allways find these tibetan flags, they have been written with beautiful words leting the wind to take them away and spread them around the world. Three touristic days around the capital will leave us a good taste if we find the hidden corners around the streets, like the Boudhanat stupa in Katmandu, one of the most sacred places for the budist people.
Beating the slopes every stage
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Thu, 30/10/2008 - 00:17There is not big unevenness in the trekk. We begin at 800 m, then you go up untill 5.416 m and you go back to the 800 m, but you always walk slowly. This traks are used by the local people to bring food and other necesities from one village to another, walking or riding mules. They have desinged these traks taking in account that they transport three times the weight that you take...
The Thorung Pass crossing Day
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Thu, 30/10/2008 - 00:05This is the DAY, not because we were naked at 5.416 m, but we have reached the Thorung Pass, one of the highest natural pass between two villages. This is the strongest day of the trekking, we still have to go down untill Muktinath (around 4 hours). The picture was shot by Helen, a good french girl that was trekking with his boyfriend (at that time, today they are married and have the small Teodor).
Lodging during the trekking
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:55Hotels along the trekking are confortable and good. Every each 2 hours you get to some small village where you can find hostels no more expensive than two euros. When you get higher, food and lodging get more expensive. Most of the hotels have electricity and hot water (not allways). Food is good and cheap, you can find occidental food too.
Machapuchare Sunset
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:49Once we get to Garopani, you can take two paths for finishing the trekking. If we choose Talopani, you need one more day, but it totally worth to see the stunning Machapuchare´s views, is the perfect sacred mountain, that brought us this beautiful sunset, a good present for the "Iglesias Family".
People during the trip
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:39There is something that makes Nepal an unforgettable country, the people. Honesty and happyness makes you dive in a world of perfect harmony with the mountains and the nature. Most of the people speak english, some italian. You can also try to speak with the people in nepalese language, they will enjoy!!
Trekking training
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:31Good condition, good mountain boots, one sleeping bag and water are the only requiered conditions for Trekking the Annapurnas. You can also get some sherpa people with you that can take care of your bags. Clothes are really cheap in Katmandu, better to by there.
Bhaktapur visit, a Katmandu´s neighborhood.
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:25Waking up early from katmandu, it takes half an hour to get to the Bhaktapur´s enchanted city.
Is worth spend all day walking around, visiting the temples and take a look at the pottery place. You can also sleep in some of the city hotels.
Poon Hill´s Dawn
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:20From Tatopani is worth to go up during 7 hours to get to the Himalaya´s balcony. From Poon Hill, the dawn lights up the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu massifs. Don´t worry about the cold, there is a small place selling hot chocolate and coffe with tibetan bread.
Three relaxing days in the Chitwan National Park
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:09After 20 trekking days, there is no better way to finish the trip than relaxing in the Chitwan National Park, where you can enjoy walking around the jungle, riding elephant or just having some nepali tea in one of the places near by the river. For the pictures lovers is worth to wake up early in the morning an take some photos with this great light.
A couple of relaxing days after crossing the "Thorung La" summit pass (5.416m)
Submitted by Viajes Desorgan... on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 23:03After crossing the pass and get to Muktinath (after 9 hours trekk), Dhaulagiri (8.167m) brought us a stunning sunset and we cheers with some beers in the Bob Marley hotel. With an expectacular terrace, but the coolest rooms of all trip!!! We recommend to stay at the other hotel of the village and take the dinner and beers in the Bob Marley... or ask for the rooms facing to the south!!
Annapurna´s trekking acclimatation
Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Wed, 29/10/2008 - 21:51Best place to avoid altitude sickness and have a good acclimatization is Manang (3500m), from where you can have several trekks to get used before crossing the pass. One trekk goes above the moraines that the Gangapurna glacier (6900m) has left behind, it finish in one small temple placed over a cliff with beautiful village views. You can also get another trekk in the south face of the valley that will lead you to a small monastery where one lama lives with his wife since 35 years ago.
