When the sun comes down, all these small boats are towing by motor boats, bringing them 2 milles far away from the coast. Once the night has come they fish as much as they can floating in these small boats as they where nut rinds... if the ocean isn´t flat it has to be like being in a washing machine.

We will "enjoy" with the vietnamese karaoke during the trip before we get to the Cat Ba island. Once we get there we can talk to the local people and rent one of their boats for some days. We paid 10 Euros per person and per day for a wood sailing boat with captain, cooker and food and we spent three days sailing by the 3.000 islands that conform the bay.

Submitted by Agustín Gómez on Fri, 31/10/2008 - 14:26If you want to travel from north to south there is one ticket bus open for two months that will stop on different places along the way, you can stay as long as you want. From Hanoi you can get the night train heading up to the north to the Sapa mountains... rail train will go really close to the people houses. Once you get to the cities, best thing to do is renting one motorcycle to move around.
